Donald Trump character steals the spotlight in ‘Scandal’s’ presidential race

“Let’s dig into the issue of those freeloading illegals!”

Did you miss Hollis Doyle (Gregg Henry) on “Scandal”? Probably not. He returned to the series on Thursday night (March 17) with a whole new agenda — the powerful determination to bring his wayward political plans into the Oval Office. It played out in a way that seems all too real for its resemblance to a certain presidential candidate dominating the TV screen in real life: Donald Trump.

Utilizing his outrageously sleazy gift of gab, while boasting about his endless supply of money, Doyle eerily channels Trump as he chats up President Fitz (Tony Goldwyn), Vice-President Susan Ross (Artemis Pebdani) and presidential hopeful, Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young).

“Didn’t we learn that in pre-school, to treat others how we want to be treated?” Grant says to Hollis after hearing his plan to lock out those “freeloading illegals.”

However, Trump Doyle wasn’t just visiting the White House for fun, he was there to snoop  on everyone’s campaign tactics, before outright stealing all of Mellie’s platforms and announcing his own run for President.

The real life election we see on the news should not be as dramatic and ludicrous as a Shonda Rhimes’ soap opera, but there you have it. “Scandal’s” Washington, D.C. — even though it films far away in Los Angeles, Ca. — is now more like our nation’s capital than ever.

"Scandal" airs on Thursday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
