MTV still can’t convince Chris “CT” Tamburello to become an official cast member on “The Challenge” again, but maybe they should use Mountain Dew’s tactic by enticing him with childhood nostalgia. On Thursday (June 16), CT showed up in New York City to take on fellow veteran Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio in a beloved decades old competition known as the Aggro Crag, the ultimate challenge from the former Nickelodeon kids series “Guts.”

Adding to the awesomeness of MTV and Mountain Dew’s epic “Rival of the Century” battle, joining CT and Bananas were “The Challenge” veteran ladies Jenna Compono and Camila Nakagawa to commentate. The competition aired live via Periscope at 2 p.m. ET/PT and the anticipation to see a few of our favorite “Challenge” stars take on what is being called the Dewggrocrag had fans everywhere searching hard for that Periscope link.
Even though CT still bests Bananas in sheer size, his lack of recent “Challenge” competitions might cause the average person to doubt his ability to beat Bananas. But one only has to think back to the famous Bananas Backpack moment to know CT could eat Bananas for dinner.
Their team colors matched to promote the new Mountain Dew soda flavors, Pitch Black and Baja Blast — which both sound terribly disgusting — and then they were off. Watching these two guys climb up the mountain of our childhood dreams was amazing — and it was over in the blink of an eye.
The competition was over in less than a minute. Johnny Bananas hit the top first and finally got his comeuppance against his longtime rival, the man who literally wore Bananas a mini-backpack in infamous elimination challenge a few years ago.
“He’s gonna brag about this the rest of his life,” Camila says, after Bananas won.
Good job, Bananas! Maybe this will be the kick in the butt CT needs to get back into shape and back on MTV. “The Challenge” is where CT belongs, and it’s time for him to come home.
