This cycle of “The Challenge” has been dramatic in all the weirdest ways. A total of four teams have gone home for reasons that have nothing to do with losing in The Jungle elimination, and the influx of “Are You the One?” competitors was a major casting snafu on MTV’s part. Now, all the remaining “Rivals III” teammates are getting along with each other so well. A little too well.

While it’s nice seeing longtime enemies now getting along, there’s something fishy about how many times viewers have heard Sarah gushing about “working so well” with Johnny Bananas. Or how Cory and Ashley have become these supportive best friends constantly laughing and joking with each other during their down time. Zap2it finds it hard to believe mending fences was this cut-throat show’s actual goal. We have a conspiracy theory that this is all part of the show’s evil plan leading up the not-yet-revealed “major twist” promised this season.
We interviewed numerous “Challenge” cast members while they were in Los Angeles taping one of the after show segments, and while no one could contractually say what happens exactly, Bananas said, “Any time there’s a twist, it takes you by surprise. [This season], it’s like nothing anyone has ever seen. Over time you think you have the game figured out, and then it’s like ‘nope!'”
Those are some big words to come from a veteran cast member who you’d think at this point, has seen it all. “And that’s how the game is different now,” Bananas said. “[Before] rules are read to you Day 1. You know these are the rules. Now, you never know when a curve ball is coming. There’s some big ones, especially at the end. It’s just unreal.”
Because it seems like MTV is pouring all these saccharine moments of the “Rivals” teammates now becoming close buddies, we think that the major twist is gong to be a last-minute change-up of the teams. Separating Bananas and Sarah, putting Sarah once again in the position to screw over him over in order to take the win would definitely fall under the category of being described as “unreal.”
These non-stop Easter eggs of seeing the “Rivals” teams happily getting along each other is too good to be true. They’re just a bit too chummy, don’t you think?
How terrible amazing would it be if all of sudden, when it comes down to the final few elimination rounds, everyone was paired with new teammates? All strategically formed alliances would be off. Every preconceived plan to make it to the end would be completely squashed.

If this shake-up doesn’t happen, then MTV has missed out one the greatest opportunities to make it up to their longtime fans after saturating this beloved series with so many “Are You the One?” cast members. If Zap2it’s conspiracy theory is correct, all would be forgiven.
“The Challenge: Rivals III” airs on Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
