“Grey’s Anatomy” Season 13 premiered Thursday night (Sept. 22), and while it may seem like it’s been a while since viewers have seen the doctors of Grey-Sloan Memorial, but as Meredith’s nanny, I am here to tell you we picked up exactly where we left off last season. That summer break I was looking forward to? Never happened — and now, there’s even one more child for me to help look after! Tonight, everyone got to meet April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson’s (Jesse Williams) new baby girl, Harriet Avery.

Viewers will still never actually see me on screen. My job is a strictly behind-the-scenes kind of role, but I’m there. How else do you think all these doctors raise their beautiful children while working 14-hour shifts and drinking off the stress at the bar afterwards? Me. But my goodness, they are growing up to be such cuties. Look how big Derek Bailey Shepherd has gotten!
Anyway, I peered up from the kid’s table at Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Amelia’s (Caterina Scorsone) wedding to see the twisted love triangle that is my boss Meredith, her sister Maggie (Kelly McCreary) and Dr. Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson) run out the door like the place was on fire.
No such thing was happening, thank God, but Meredith called to let me know Karev had beaten the crap out of Dr. DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti). My heart stopped. She knows I am secretly in love with him. Okay, everyone knows I have huge crush on him, but that’s neither here nor there. Meredith says, “Karev nearly beat him to death.”
And then when Dr. Ben Warren (Jason George) called to see if I could pick up Tuck from a friend’s house, as it was looking like he and Bailey (Chandra Wilson) would be stuck in surgery for awhile, of course I said okay.
“Whoever did this will never be a practicing surgeon again,” Warren said, before hanging up. He knew Meredith would’ve told me the truth, but I said nothing. He was fishing, but there was no way I would betray my boss’s confidence. Thankfully, Karev ended up turning himself in.
The entire situation is devastating. But is there ever a normal day in the Grey household? No. Karev’s behind bars, Meredith’s a mess waiting to see if he’s going to be convicted of a felony or not, and I’m in no position to complain about having to make four dozen cupcakes for Zola’s school bake-off tomorrow. Oh, well. I’ll check in again next week with more behind-the-scenes tea.
“Grey’s Anatomy” airs on Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
